Versatile uncooled colour camera with Sony IMX585 Starvis II sensor. Large 1/1.2″ format (3840×2160) with 2.9 μm pixels — ideal for both planetary and deep-sky imaging.
Description
The ZWO ASI585MC is one of the most versatile uncooled colour cameras in ZWO’s lineup, built around Sony’s IMX585 back-illuminated Starvis II sensor. With 2.9 μm pixels across a generous 1/1.2″ format (3840 x 2160), it offers a rare combination of high resolution, large sensor area, and exceptional low-light sensitivity — equally at home on planets and deep-sky targets.

The IMX585 is widely regarded as one of Sony’s best sensors for astronomy. It delivers extremely low read noise (around 1e- at high gain), near-infrared sensitivity extending past 900 nm, and a high full-well capacity that preserves dynamic range in bright targets like Jupiter and the Orion Nebula core. The 8.3 MP resolution at native 4K provides plenty of detail for both high-speed planetary video and stacked deep-sky exposures.

USB 3.0 ensures fast data transfer even at full resolution, and the camera is compatible with ASIAIR, SharpCap, FireCapture, and all ASCOM/INDI platforms. The built-in ST4 port allows it to double as an autoguider. The 1/1.2″ sensor diagonal (11 mm) pairs well with most telescopes without vignetting concerns common to larger sensors.

The ASI585MC is ideal for imagers who want a single do-it-all camera without the bulk and power requirements of a cooled system. Excellent for EAA, planetary imaging, lunar mosaics, and short-exposure deep-sky work. A favourite among ASIAIR users for its combination of performance and simplicity.
