The ZWO 160mm Pier Extension raises your AM5 harmonic drive mount by 160 mm when mounted on a pier or tripod, giving your telescope the extra clearance it needs to avoid collisions with the tripod legs at certain pointing angles — especially near the meridian and when imaging near the zenith.

Built from anodized aluminium, the extension column is designed specifically for the AM5 mount’s bolt pattern and maintains rigid alignment without introducing flex or play. It threads directly between the mount head and its base plate, making installation straightforward — no additional adapters or modifications needed.

If you use longer optical tubes (refractors over 500 mm, or Newtonians) on your AM5, this extension is practically essential. Without sufficient clearance, your tube or camera can physically contact the tripod legs, limiting the sky area you can image and risking damage to your equipment during automated goto slews.
